Learner Dispositions

Dispositions describe a students ability to use particular skills when faced with problems to solve, ideas to evaluate or decisions to make. Adopting these ways of thinking will improve student outcomes and chances for successful, life long learning. In consultation with our students and staff about effective learning we have come up with five learning dispositions: Connected, Creative, Gritty, Brave and Reflective. Our aim is to develop these capabilities in students in an effort to create successful learners and focus on achievement and progress. Working on these dispositions will strengthen students independence, creativity, motivation and resilience. These dispositions or capabilities are explicitly taught in each classroom, with students given opportunities to practice adopting these mind frames in short, focussed activities. The capabilities language is also embedded across the school. Development of these dispositions is fundamental for students to develop an awareness of the way they learn and establish future focused attitudes to learning which is critical if they are to become life-long learners.
