English as an Additional Language or Dialect
What is the EALD Program?
EALD (English as an Additional Language or Dialect) refers to children and young people whose home language is a language or dialect other than Standard Australian English (SAE). These students require additional support to develop proficiency in English to successfully access the curriculum.
EALD at St. Thomas School and Pre-School
St. Thomas School and Pre-School works in partnership with the Catholic Education South Australia (CESA) English as an Additional Language or Dialect program. This partnership aims to holistically improve the language and literacy learning of EALD students, ensuring they can successfully engage with the school curriculum.
Purpose of the EALD Program
The EALD program at St. Thomas School and Pre-School is specifically designed to:
- Provide targeted resourcing for EALD learners
- Offer informed instruction that accelerates the English language proficiency of EALD students
Through this program, EALD students receive the necessary support to enhance their English language skills, enabling them to achieve academic success and fully participate in the school community.
