Inclusion & Diversity
As part of Catholic Education South Australia, St Thomas School and Preschool is a learning community of welcome and inclusion, celebrating diversity. Our Catholic identity and mission guide the way we fully support and welcome students with a disability and students with additional needs in their learning. These unique individuals provide such rich and diverse ways of seeing and experiencing the world. They are a gift in our community.
Our inclusive education practices are also guided by the Disability Standard for Education. These Standards set out how education is to be made accessible to students with disability through the provision of reasonable adjustments so that they can access and participate in education on the same basis as their peers.
The Standards recognise that not all students with disability are alike. Students with disability have specific needs, including the type and level of support they need in order to access and participate in all aspects of education on the same basis as students without disability.
Our inclusive education practices include the design of a Personal Plan for Learning (PPL), the provision of adjustments to support wellbeing and learning, review meetings and ongoing communication in partnership with families, collaboration with allied educators and a constant cycle of review.
